RICHARD HENRY LEE

Of "Chantilly," Westmoreland, Virginia

The Richard Henry Lee Chapter's namesake, Richard Henry Lee, was a Burgess, Justice, Member of the Committee of Correspondence, the Continental Congress, the Legislature of Virginia, and the U.S. Senate, First and Second Congress. In 1784, he was elected President of the U.S. Congress. He drafted the petition to the King and address to the people of Great Britain and authored the famous motion of 7 June 1776 before the Continental Congress which initiated the dissolution of our connection with the British Crown. He was a Signer of the Declaration of Independence and the Articles of Confederation.
